Sunday School Teachers


Job Description

  • Provide a friendly, engaging environment as a teacher of the Sunday School lessons for a specified age group. Sunday School Curriculum is provided.


Volunteer Responsibilities

  • Arrive Sunday mornings by 9:30 to be sure classroom is prepared for class.

  • Use provided curriculum and materials to teach classes.

  • Ask for help from Sunday School Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent as needed.

  • After class is finished, wipe down all surfaces and clean up as needed.

  • Contact a substitute if you are unable to teach on a specific date.


Reoccurrence of Serving

  • Sunday School teachers lead class each Sunday morning.

  • The SS Superintendent will initiate a review after one year to see if the teacher will lead class the following year.


  • NHCC runs a background check for anyone who works with NHCC children & youth programs. We request a new background check every two years for volunteers who continue to help in these areas. The background check is confidential and has no cost for the volunteer.

Mandated Reporter Training

  • Any adult volunteer in our children & youth programs is considered a “mandated reporter.”  Before serving with children, NHCC requires a free training for volunteers.

  • Free online training is available through DCFS.  Click here to access the training, which takes about 1 hour to complete.
